Phoebe tutored me for Finite Math, an extremely difficult course I must pass on my way toward attending UCLA. Phoebe is not your average tutor. From the beginning she makes time to hear your individual needs and pinpoint exactly what you are having trouble with. From there, she is able to formulate a lesson plan based on your exact needs so whatever problems you are having trouble with can be tackled from all sides. Therefore with a little hard work on your part and some determination Phoebe will no doubt help make you the student you want to be. 

One of the greatest challenges I face has always been math and word problems. I never was able to understand the conundrum in front of me. Though with Phoebe's help, I am finally able to grasp and make sense out of each math problem that comes my way.

I came to Phoebe in the spring and summer of 2015 in preparation for the GRE. What attracted me to her is her breadth of knowledge about the GRE, the incorporation of critical study material published by the actual maker of the GRE, ETS (Educational Testing Services) targeting my weaknesses and 24 actual GRE exams. Phoebe tutored me for the GRE. She first identified areas of weaknesses for me before preparing helpful lessons targeting those sections. "Great tutor for the GRE!"

I reached out to Phoebe because I had to retake the GRE and only had three weeks to study. I mostly needed to improve on the math portion because I knew that improving on the verbal portion requires more than three weeks. Prior to meeting with Phoebe, I studied on my own using approximately four test-prep books and various online resources. At the same time, I was working a full time job (60+ hours a week), so I studied before work and after work on got between 4-5 hours a sleep every night. 

Phoebe and I met for approximately 2 weeks (numerous sessions throughout those 2 weeks) and for a total of 22 hours; on top of that, I had other tutors to help supplement my studying when Phoebe was not available, but Phoebe was my primary tutor. She worked with my schedule really well despite my full time job. We met at a public location for several hours on specific days and went over practice exams, exercises, and strategies that she designed; Phoebe had numerous resources that guided me in the right direction. Specifically, actual GRE tests (over 24!) which enabled me to keep improving my test scores!

She also gave me practice problems to do at home. When I addressed questions to her, she explained it in a way that is easy to understand. She knew what my weaknesses were and honed in on those topics. 

I started with a 152 (52%) on the math section initially and ended up with a 161 (83%) on the math section, which is a 31% improvement! So, I highly recommend Phoebe as a tutor. She is knowledgeable and flexible.

As a result of her help, I got accepted into the master program of an extremely competitive veterinary school of my choice!

"Just what I needed for Pre-Calculus!"

I came to Phoebe because I was spending hours each weekend teaching myself math and getting nowhere with my Pre-Calculus class at UCLA. My teacher wasn't teaching at all, and I was very lost. "Very helpful tutor for the GRE"

I had gone to another highly recognized tutor on WyzAnt, but he did not help me to raise my GRE math score I needed desperately to improve in order to get into a top Ph.D. program for Engineering. I came to Phoebe for help afterward and Phoebe was so helpful! After identifying my areas of weakness using the ETS (actual maker of the GRE test) study material, we worked really hard. Sometimes we met for 4 hours. I started with the math score of 148/150 and after 5 weeks or so coming in on average 3+ times per week, I reached a score of 153 which is a 13% increase in percentile. 

Then I continued the tutoring for another 6+ weeks coming in on average 3+ times per week and reached a score of 156, which is a total of 25% increase in percentile. 

I completed more than 21 practice tests after reviewing all of 4 sections of the math review by ETS and doing homework assigned by Phoebe.

"Excellent Maths tutor for the CBEST"

I'd really like to highly recommend Phoebe as a math tutor. I was extremely worried about taking the Cbest (High School level) exam for the Math Section in order to be credentialed as a teacher here. My record as a math student is rather bad. Phoebe persuaded me that I could succeed in math (which she loves herself) and that with steady work and regular sessions with her I would succeed and I did! On the day of the exam her training and hard work kicked in and I managed to pass my Cbest math exam first time and with excellent results!

I took the TEAS test once and did not do well. I felt that I needed a tutor to help me improve my scores, especially in both the Reading Comprehension and Grammar sections. "Phoebe is a very conscientious and focused tutor. When I decided to go back to school for medicine, I was required to take many math and science courses. As a graduate of Columbia University, my background is in Communications and there is a reason - math and science are HARD! In fact, I didn't think I was "wired" to comprehend subjects that dealt with lots of numbers and equations. I was wrong and it took a really hardworking, determined tutor to show me that I was, indeed, capable of understanding Pre-Calculus, Chemistry, and Physics.

I am a UCLA student who has taken science and math classes both through the Extension Program and on Main Campus. Phoebe tutored me in all three of the above mentioned subjects. She never gave up on me and made it her job to do whatever it takes to bring me to understand very difficult concepts. Phoebe is different from other tutors I have worked with in the past because she doesn't just have one standard approach.

She genuinely cares and wants to discover how each student best learns so that she may approach the concepts in a manner that makes sense to the student. She never gets frustrated if you do not understand, but continues to refine her methodology in presenting the material in a very human way. She is not only a tutor, but a listener. I never thought I would say physics is fun...but I genuinely appreciate it!

Phoebe loves to learn and loves what she is teaching. Her true enthusiasm made me forget I was "studying" hard subjects. Our sessions would fly by because I was learning so much and having so much fun learning. As long as I am in California, I will have Phoebe tutoring me.
